Sony’s video game Concord was released in August 2024. The game took eight years to develop but was pulled off the market after only two weeks. Development began just as the genre-defining hit, Overwatch, launched, of which the gaming community is certain Concord is a blatant imitation. While making a spinoff of a great game isn't inherently bad, doing so nearly a decade later in a market oversaturated with similar games is naive. Especially when most games like Concord today are free. Concord charged $40. And not doing marketing is not so smart either. Most gamers only learned about Concord when news of its failure spread. With fewer than 700 players at its peak, it was called “one of the biggest failures in gaming that the industry has ever seen.”
